Six Sketches

A Good Story

This is a story about three kids, two of them were very good at drawing. The third one was not good at drawing but was very good in making stories.

I don't like this story because it is boring and it is not creative.

"What's that?" and the people say "Cheese!". He explains that we can't say "Cheese!" and not smile.

Boxing is for boys; dancing is for girls.

Some people think of certain sports as only for men or only for women. For example, when a girl wants to take up boxing, people say, "You're so pretty. Why do you want to be a boxer? Boxing is for men." And some parents don't like it when their sons show interest in dancing or figure skating.
It is generally true that boys tend to do sports that require stregth and size, such as soccer and biking, and that girls go for sport that require flexibility and grace, such as figure skating and gymnastics. But is there a diffetence in the type of sports boys and girls play?
Postcards 2A 2nd Edition p.40

What's your opinion about it? Do you think are there sports only for girls and sports only for boys?

Thailand's Floating Markets Part 1 By Zoë Nightshade

Thailand's Floating Markets

Floating markets are popular tourist destinations in Thailand. At the floating markets, there are a lot of small boats overflowing with fresh fruit and vegetables.
Imagine the colors of fresh fruit and vegetables on hundreds of boats sailing quietly along the river. Then imagine Thai women in their colorful traditional clothes on these boats. The effect is magical.
The floating markets open at 6:30 A.M.
Early in the morning, before the markets open, farmers pick fruit and vegetables from their farms.

[...]

Thailand's Floating Markets Part 2 by Lara Wilson

...Later, their wives sell the fruitand vegetables on their boats. Why do the women sell their products on boats, instead of in regular stores? Central Thailand has bodies of water throughout. In some place, there are canals instead of streets. Farmers have their farms near these canals, and selling their products on boats is convenient.
At a floating market you can use cahs to shop or you can exchance your products with other sellers' products. If you get hungry, just call one of the women an she will come over to you. You can watch her cook youe food right on the boat!!

Becoming a Fat Nation Part 2 by Diana Cooper

... No matter who's right, it is true: Peaple in the United States are getting fatter. They simply eat too much. As a result, health departments in the United States are taking action. For example, New York's health department has asked restaurants to use healthful ingredients in foods. Many schools in the United States no longer have soda or candy vending machines, and school cafeterias  are offering more healthful menus.                                                       Health experts agree that being a healthy nation is everybody's resposibility, that the best way to solve the problem is througt education. A public education campaing on food and health would help educate people about what they eat, forcing food manufactures to offer more wholesome and healthful food choices.

Becoming a Fat Nation Part 1 By Richard Simpson

Becoming a fat nation

According to surveys , 61 percent of Americans, or 127 milion people, are obese. The U.S governament is worried because to much weight contributes to diabets, heart diase, and other ilnesses.
Some people blame the food industry and advertisers for the nation's weight problem. They say food makers want people to eat when they're not hungry and keep eating when they're full.
But food manufactures say it's not their fault that many Americans are overweight. People can choose what they want to eat. They point out that supermarkets in the United States offer a lot of  choices, including low-calorie, fat-free ,and sugar-free foods.Advertisers say it's not their fault either. More money is spent on marketing low-calorie and fat-free foods than any other foods...

What is Easter??

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was crucified at the time of the passover. Three days later He rose from the dead and was resurrected that's why we celebrate Easter.  Easter is a Jewish tradition typically Christian celebration,  however, even in other countries of the world where other religions predominate. Easter  is celebrated on the first Sunday of April.

Kelly sayuri

Easter

Easter originated in 1920 and 1930 when the chocolate industry began to increase. Big eggs were hit in the 20 and 30 decades.  The origin of eggs and rabbits is old and it came through legends. The image of the rabbit means a symbol of fertility, as Easter is resurrection, rabbits is nothing better than rabbits.

Beatrice Mika

Easter Eggs

At the biginning, people gave colored chicken eggs to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Today people celebrate Easter day, giving chocolate eggs for kids and adults who like chocolate.

Roberto Mitsuaki  (~.~)

Happy Easter!

Easter means passage. This day refers to the resurrection of Christ and it is the most important calebration for the christians. The jews celebrate this day as the day they came out of Egypt.
The Easter is a Jewish and Christian tradition, however, even in other countries of the world where other religions predominate, as is the case of China, Easter is also celebrated and has a message for peace.
But,how the Easter is celebrated in other countries?
Brazil and Latin America: children are given chocolate eggs and exchange with friends and family.
Europe: Easter traditions include decorating boiled eggs and playing with Easter eggs, for example, roll them down the hill, where the winner will be one egg roll farther without breaking.
United States: The game is the more traditional 'egg hunt' where chocolate eggs are hidden in the backyard or in the house to be discovered by children on Easter morning.
The children believe in the Easter Bunny, the one who delivers the eggs, but they forget the true meaning of this celebration.

HAPPY EASTER!
